Amazon Robotics

As a Robotics Fellow for Amazon Robotics’ Day one Fellowship program I worked as a Software Engineer in Amazon’s Innovation Lab, a one of a kind R&D lab that works on future technologies for Amazon Robotics. During my tenure I worked on 2 projects. One involving human and robot interaction for Amazon’s newly launched Proteus drive seen in green below. The other involving data processing and creating a pipeline for inventory analytics to inform a new project.

Proteus is Amazon’s first autonomous shared-space robot! Their new drive unit is still learning its ways around the facilities and how it interacts with its new coworkers and they with it. I conducted a human-robot interaction study on how Proteus effectively communicates its intentions to those around it. This involved simulated prototypes of various modes of communication on a physical robot with custom mechanical, electrical, and software components.

Inventory Analytics:

Amazon Fulfillment Centers throughout the U.S. employ various systems to maintain constant knowledge of where every purchasable item is at any given moment in a warehouse. I conducted an initial study using data from various internal API’s from different departments to create a pipeline for fast analytics. This helped inform a new solution that would help improve consistent coverage throughout Amazon’s warehouses.
